Meran & surroundings - South Tyrol
This holiday resort is surrounded by the majestic mountains of the Gruppo Tessa / Texelgruppe. The mild Mediterranean climate revitalizes all the senses well before the first breaths of Spring, and there is plenty of sunshine all year round.
Merano / Meran is at the heart of the Burgraviato / Burggrafenamt, which stretches northwards in Val Venosta / Vinschgau as far as Val Senales / Schnalstal and southwards as far as Gargazzone / Gargazon, taking in also Val d’Ultimo / Ultental – with all its primitive beauty – and Val Passiria / Passeiertal. At the end of the 1800s Merano / Meran, thanks to its mild and balanced climate, was already a famous international health resort. Even a number of sub-tropical plant species grow in the natural basin of Merano / Meran, thanks to the high average annual temperatures.
Here also, on the famous glacier in Val Senales / Schnalstal, you’ll find the only ski area in South Tyrol where it’s possible to ski all year round. On the southern side of the Ötztal and Stubei Alps, to the north of Meran, the thermal city, lies an uncontaminated valley, full of natural beauties. In fact, it is considered one of the most beautiful areas of South Tyrol (www.passeiertal.it).
